Easygoing and Carefree. In addition to teaching notes, I use Music Theory to reinforce ear training.
Methods Used for Instruction
While playing by ear has it's advantages, when faced with new music that you have never heard before, there is no substitute for being able to read music. Among the 'methods' used for teaching such instruction are, Piano Town published by Kjos and Piano Adventures published by Faber. Yet, while I primarily teach notes, having been a church musician and playing other gigs professionally, I understand the value of emphasizing how music works (theory), and how to make a student's ear work for them in playing music.
Musical Styles in teaching
While most of my students are beginners, I teach children and adults alike at all levels. I feel it is also important for a student to experience a variety of styles, therefore I like to include classical, jazz, blues, rock n roll and gospel (if the student is so inclined).
