PRACTICE We want all of our students to have a positive musical experience. Therefore, please assist us by practicing, or encouraging the student, to practice regularly. Your instructor can teach the student how to practice, but cannot make the student practice! It is normal for students to resist practice, particularly at first. However, like any other endeavor, gentle persistence will be rewarded by progress. INSTRUMENT REQUIREMENTS While it is possible to begin rudimentary instruction on a simple keyboard, it is important that an appropriate instrument be chosen by the time the primer level instruction has been completed. By this time, usually within 6 months to a year, a students commitment to piano instruction should have been determined. Many of the techniques require touch sensitivity and the availability of a sustain pedal which can only be taught on an appropriate instrument. Please discuss with your instructor about which options would be most appropriate for you.
SAFETY To ensure the safety of students, each child must be escorted to the lesson by a parent or guardian. Once the student has greeted their instructor, parents may leave until the lesson is over. Parents are expected to pick up on the student on time. Failure to comply will result in the cancellation of lessons.
SUMMER SEMESTER Students are encouraged to continue their instruction throughout the summer. If a student chooses not to take lessons during the summer or cancels excessively, there will be no guarantee of a fall lesson time. Please consult with your instructor regarding your summer schedule.
PERFORMANCES (OPTIONAL) Students are encouraged to take advantage of performing opportunities that are offered by the school for which the teacher, student, and parents feel the student is prepared.
TERMINATION OF LESSONS We hope that every student will benefit from their study of music, and that any problems that occur will be discussed with their instructor as they arise. If a student decides to discontinue instruction in the middle of the month, the student is responsible for the payment of tuition for the entire month, after which the billing will stop. There are no refunds of tuition payments. Please notify your instructor of your intent to discontinue the lessons as soon as possible.
